STANDARD V

Engage in professional growth and leadership

  • Participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning

  • Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others

  • Evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning

  • Contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community

It is important for educators to never stop learning and growing in their field. Standard V holds teachers accountable for developing their professional growth and leadership skills. I have included three artifacts that I feel demonstrate the development of professional growth, as a component of Standard V.

Teacher Technology Survey

This artifact was created as a component of a research study that my group and I conducted in REF 601. The purpose of our study was to assess whether or not the amount of technology professional development a teacher received effected how much they incorporated technology into their classroom instruction. This survey was actually administered to teachers in K-12 classrooms. It meets Standard V, by evaluating and reflecting on current professional practice to make use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources that support student learning. The results from the survey assisted us in evaluating current practices of teachers.

Instructional Technology Interview

One assignment required me to interview a current Technology Coordinator to gain a better understanding of what this position entails. This interview assisted me in meeting Standard V by allowing me to engage in professional growth myself. I learned a lot about what a Technology Coordinator does on a daily basis, and the steps needed to obtain that position.

SAMR Model Course

This course was created in Dreamweaver, and was intended to be used for current educators to teach them about the levels of the SAMR model. The entire course contains lessons, examples, and formative quizzes pertaining to the SAMR model. This course assisted me in exhibiting leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion. My school’s principal actually shared this course with our entire faculty, and furthermore with our school district’s curriculum director. Through the creation of this course, I was able to develop the technology skills of many others. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

In the near future, I would love to develop a greater number of teachers’ technology skills by exhibiting leadership. I can do this by creating other courses like the one I made with Dreamweaver, that promote the use of creative applications of technology for instructional practices. I also plan on joining a professional organization in the near future that will allow me to participate in a global learning community.
